Calling all filmmakers!

SOUNDSCAPE – Brighton Film Quartet

Be part of an exciting and unique project...

At Brighton Film Quartet we are looking for filmmakers who'd like to collaborate with us in our unique SOUNDSCAPE concerts. We would love to feature a 2- to 10-minute clip of your footage in our upcoming concerts at small, independent cinemas and other venues in the Sussex area, and potentially for other future concerts. Dates so far have included the Duke of Yorks arthouse cinema, Brighton, and Uckfield's award-winning cinema, E Sussex, Brighton Fringe Spiegeltent. After three years of performing our own minimalist cinematic music as a piano quartet, we have developed SOUNDSCAPE, a multi-layered concert, setting our live music (piano, clarinet, cello and violin) to stunning visuals, with composed soundtrack and vocals. Our music is composed by the pianist, Penny, and we are an all-female quartet. To hear some tracks listen below. The trailer will give a good taster of our show.

We are really happy to work with footage already made, and as a guideline for the visuals: think artistic, abstract, beautiful colours, edgy urbanscape, evocative, dramatic, dreamy, timelapse (not necessarily all at once!) or anything that might suit any of the tracks (see "Soundcloud" tracks below, though please do contact Penny first just to check). We are also trying to loosely theme sections of the concert eg nature, technology, journeys, colour, time, urban etc, just in case that inspires you to think of something we might use. We are also open to using stills. We wouldn't normally edit the footage but would always ask you permission to make any changes or to slightly adjust for our music if needed. Also, in some cases we may compose music especially for your footage.

Most visuals don't need to "sync" with the music, as we'll be playing in freetime and are just looking for a visual that roughly matches the mood of the music (see "Freetime tracks", however a few of the more upbeat tracks may be played to a "beat" so there's the possibility of syncing (see "Synchronised tracks"), for which Penny can provide more details. The trailer below will give you a feel for what we've done so far. As an upcoming quartet we don't yet have the funds to pay our filmmakers (though we are positive this will change in the future, and hope to be able to make some contribution very soon!), however we can offer use of our music for free in your projects as an exchange (see compositions for more of an idea) and will get you some comp tickets to see one of our shows. You'll also be credited fully on the programmes, on screen after each show, linked on our home page and promoted in our social media before shows.

Please contact Penny on the info below. Thank you so much for your time, and we really look forward to collaborating with you! Love, Penny, Emma, Sophie & Abi x
